Pinspiration For Our Future Home

I really love Pinterest. I've been finding lots and lots of inspiration for projects and decor I'd like to implement in our new house when the times comes. We're under contract now on our new house, but know that it's not official until we actually move in, so I'm trying not to get TOO excited. I'm feeling cautious that I'll get all giddy and then be heartbroken if we can't move in. But you guys, it has a dishwasher! And a garage! And space for a garden!

Whether we move into this house, or eventually into another one - I have lots of ideas - and I'm excited to share them with you.

We plan to paint the entire interior of the house before we move in, so we don't have to worry about it later. It'll be fresh and ready for us. These blues and grays are quickly becoming favorites.

Micah is going to be sharing his bedroom with his little brother or sister (when we find out what we're having in June, I'll be able to have a lot of fun planning their room!) I really want to have a guest room, so that people who come to stay with us don't have to sleep on the couch or on the floor! Since we don't know the new baby's gender yet, I haven't been able to plan ahead too much, but I know I want to incorporate teal and gray (imagine that!), and make some kind of art work like this one for Micah:

Somewhere in a new house I'd like to incorporate peacocks, just a little bit. My grandparents had peacocks when I was a kid and they lived on a farm, so it's kind of a reminiscent animal for me! I love this picture, which I found on Etsy:

For a long time I've been wanting to plant a garden. The last few years I have planted some vegetables in pots, but I didn't have a good place to keep them in the sunshine and near a water source, so they've always died. I'm hoping to have a great garden when we move - and the house we're hoping to move into already has a patch of tilled ground - ready for seeds!

I used this online garden planner to map out how many different kinds of veggies and fruits I can fit. It tells you when to start them inside, and I'm a little bit behind on tomatoes so I need to get the planted, today! If we don't end up moving in here, I'll just put them in pots and be careful to make sure they get enough water.

Maybe someday, just maybe, someday far, far down the road we can got one of these in our new house:

Because really? It's adorable!

Another Fun Weekend Project

I've written three posts in three days! What?! Obviously I found my camera, which was hiding in the back seat of our car - I'm really not sure how it got there.

Like I mentioned yesterday, I've been excited to get our house organized. At the same time, I want to change up a few things around the house, because I get bored with our decorations easily. The budget for these kinds of changes is small, as in maybe $10, so I have to be creative.

My friend Sarah posted a picture a month or two ago of a ceramic owl that she found at Goodwill. She spray painted it, and it was totally transformed - very cute! I saw her post and filed the idea away in the back of my mind.

When I went to Packwood over Labor Day weekend with David's side of the family, we spent some time at the flea market - it's always interesting to see what we can find! We bought Micah some great farm toys! I was sort of keeping my eyes open for some kind of owl or bird figurine I could paint and have in the house. And I found one that I thought would work pretty well:

Isn't it ugly? I wouldn't keep it in my house like this, but I picked up a can of aqua spray paint and spread out some newspapers on our driveway. On a whim, I also grabbed a picture frame out of our living room.

I took out the glass and the photo, of course, (isn't Micah adorable though?) and then I got to spray painting. Here are the finished results:

Ignore the dorky plain frame on the top right - I'm in the process of redoing these pictures.

I love how it's a great punch of color in our living room! I even rearranged the shelf, with Micah's Halloween Trick-or-Treating basket in the center - another fun punch of color.

The funny thing is, I went back to look at Sarah's owl after I had put my little blue owl on the shelf and had taken these pictures, and it's the same owl figurine! What is the likelihood of that? Maybe there aren't that many owl figurines out there. Sorry Sarah, I didn't mean to copy you exactly, just to imitate your creativity!
