This afternoon I laid Micah down on a blanket on the living room floor to play, and when I was talking to him he was smiling at me! He has smiled before, of course, but never when it really seems like he meant to. This time though, he just kept smiling and talking to me. I quickly grabbed the video camera to capture the special moment for his dad, and all of his fans!

Five Weeks, Wearing Three Months
That's right, Micah's five weeks old, but wearing size 3 months already! He's a big, growing boy! There are a few 3 month clothes that his legs are a little too short for still, but most of them will fit him. It's kind of fun, because we now have a whole bunch of new clothes that I can dress him in!
He's awfully cute!

Micah-Roni
Today Micah is 4 weeks old! How time flies! I can't believe that he's that old already... but it feels like we've had him for a really long time too.
We've had a good couple of days with Micah. A couple (or a bunch) of highlights are...
* He has been sleeping really well! When I put him down for bed the last couple of nights he's gone to sleep without crying! (Before he would cry and I would have to pick him up and rock him. Then I'd put him back and we'd start all over... for an hour usually.)
* He's starting to make cute little cooing sounds! It's like he's talking to himself. :)
* I've noticed that he's better able to focus on objects, like toys or our faces. I put him in his play-mat and he looks (a little bit) at the toys hanging on the sides.
* His neck is getting stronger! When we hold him upright on our chest he's holding up his head for a short time all on his own. He does still bang his face down on our shoulders if we're not fast enough to catch him though.
* Finally his umbilical cord fell off! And he has a belly button! It's part innie and part outie, very cute!
* He's in his cloth diapers, and we're trying to figure out how this system will work out best for us. Today is only the second day, so we're learning a lot, but it's going well so far. These are not your grandma's cloth diapers, or even your mom's! They're pretty impressive, with a PUL (Poly-Uretheyne Liner) on the outside, so they don't leak through. (We've had a few leaks so far, but only out the top or leg holes, and I think it's because I didn't put them on tight enough...)
Side-note... I did my first load of cloth diaper laundry today. It's not so bad! And I finally get to use the clothesline I put up four months ago. Aren't we so eco-friendly!?
We're really enjoying being parents, challenges and all. It's definitely a hard job, and I am realizing that there will be many days where I feel like I'm not getting anything done, but it's so worth it!

Playtime in the Crib and Play Mat
Today is my first day home with just Micah while David is gone all day! Yikes! We're having fun so far, he's spent some time in the crib, looking at everything hanging on the wall. Now he's laying in his play mat on his tummy. He's trying to get his knees under his bottom already, with his strong little legs! And he has the hiccups, of course. :)
I took some more video this morning, you can see he's changed a lot in just a short time:

Video of Micah
I'm going to get this video to work someday! Here's another try. (You'll want to pause the music on the right hand side if you want to hear me talking to him.)
This one is a week or so old, but he's awake and you get to see all the little faces that Micah makes when he's looking around the room. :) He's a lot more alert lately, and much more active, throwing his arms around and kicking a lot, but this is a cute little video of him.

Three Weeks Old
Our little Micah is three weeks old today! I've been very busy taking care of him, changing diapers, feeding, and of course cuddling with him! He's such a sweet little guy, always ready to be held and cuddled, and he hardly ever cries. (Of course every time I say that, he cries hard the next time I change his diaper.)
Micah has grown so much in the last three weeks! At his last doctor appointment he was already 9 lbs, 13 oz, up nearly an entire pound from his birth weight! He was 22 inches long, another inch taller, and he's continued to grow since then. I'm sure he's over 10 lbs now! He has been working on holding up his head, bobbing it around when we hold him upright on our chests. He doesn't have full control of it yet, and won't for a while I'm sure, but he's very strong for such a little guy.
Maverick has a lot of interest in Micah, always trying to sneak in a little lick on the back of his head when we're holding him, or on his fingers and toes when Micah's in his bouncer chair. (Which he loves to sit and take naps in! Thanks cousin Robyn!) I don't see any way that Micah will be afraid of dogs when he's older, as he's already very tolerant of Maverick's ever present tongue, as well as his occasional barking.
We're very blessed by our little man, so thankful that God has given us such a wonderful, healthy, and handsome little son. He truly is a gift!
